All four United States major labels, Warner, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG and EMI Music, are curently renegotiating their licensing deals with YouTube in a battle to increase the online revenue share they would get from YouTube using their music videos to attract visitors. Originally a site for the average job to broadcast himself, YouTube is now a major revenue generating website using content from all walks of life. One label executive estimates that music videos will generate about $300 million for the industry this year.
In an effort to strong arm YouTube into upping the revenue share Warner has pulled all of their music videos from YouTube at present that would include artist like T.I., Linkin Park, Madonna, etc.
The question remains will independent artists and labels, who are also responsible for a great number of visitors attracted to YouTube, get a share of the pie? Get your video on!
