After being convicted of shooting her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in July of 2007 due to $3,000 dollars being missed from her purse during a night out with friends, rapper Remy Ma’s was sentenced to server 8 years at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. The sentence was handed down on Monday (May 13) in Manhattan Supreme Court by judge Uviller who addressed the court saying “She’s overcome a difficult childhood. Her music has inspired people in need. She’s loved and has support from her family. This is somewhat of a pattern,”, “This is not the first time she has been engaged in a violent act. She has never taken responsibility for her actions. This has nothing to do with rap, it’s about the actions of one person. Remy is an extremely angry young woman, who feels the rules do not apply to her.”
Remy Ma’s broke into tears as the verdict was delivered while her fiance rapper Papoose had to be restrained and removed from the court room as he yelled to Barnes-Joseph, “All you want is money!”. As previously reported Papoose attempted to marry Remy at Rikers Island unsuccessful due to him allegedly having a concealed “Handcuff Key” upon entering the Jail. Remy Ma plans to appeal the sentence.
