“The handcuff thing was ridiculous,” says Papoose. “The law states, if I carried a handcuff key into a prison, I would have been arrested.”
As reported earlier, the New York Daily News gossip blog stated, New York rapper Papoose‘s wedding to Remy Ma was abruptly called off Monday when Papoose, showed up with a handcuff key. According to Hot97′s hip-hop insider Miss Info, it was a skeleton key from Papoose’s keychain which he has had for years and has remained on his key chain each of the several times he’s visited Remy at Rikers.
Sohh reports, when asked to turn over the key during a security check at Rikers, Papoose gave the keys over with no incident. The rapper was traveling to the wedding with Remy’s mother and three other guests. But right before boarding the prison bus, he was pulled aside and taken to see the warden.
According to a member of Remy Ma’s management team “Pap has not missed one visit while she was at Rikers,” he told SOHH. “Every C.O. knows him. The skeleton key thing was bogus.” “[Pap] knew something was up when they asked him to come back,” he continued. “He never made it to the chapel. The officers told Remy they had to reschedule. No one told her what happened. She didn’t find out until she spoke with Pap.”
Papoose’s girlfriend rapper Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison on first-degree assault, criminal weapons charges and attempted coercion, for shooting her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, in the abdomen last July. Remy Ma contends the shooting was an accident something which Barnes-Joseph admitted to when questioned during the trial. Remy Ma plans to appeal the sentencing.
