Jay-Z has come to the defense of LeBron James in the wake of the increasingly bitter LeBron James and DeShawn Stevenson “rivalry”. The bad blood seems to stem from Stevenson labeling himself “the LeBron James killer” and stating that James is overrated. This coming from a player who averages below double figures. In game 4 of the rivals playoff series Stevenson flagrantly fouled James and this seemed to upset Jay-Z who comes to his fellow Roc Boy’s defense with the release of a diss track on Too Short’s “Blow the Whistle” beat titled with the same name. Stevenson is originally from Fresno, CA so the choice of beat holds some irony.
Some of the media reaction to the song has been quite amusing with Slam Online blogger Marcel Mutoni making this ridiculous statement “If we’re not careful, and by that I mean if we don’t keep rappers out of it, this Wizards/Cavs series is going to end in gunfire.” End in gunfire? C’mon Marcel, statements like that just feed into negative stereotypes. I seriously doubt anyone is going to take up arms over as you put it “Mr. Beyonce’s” diss track. Mutoni also goes on to mention that Jay-Z is “New Jersey Nets minority owner (!)” as if to take a shot at Jay. Makes me wonder what pro sports team Mutoni is major owner of? (lol)
