It seems even though both Presidential Candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, have avoided making the battle for the White House a race issue, broadcast media outlets like CNN have not been able to get past race. Ironically enough they are airing a segment called “Black In America” now that Sen. Barack Obama has secured the Presidential Nomination. They have also been running numerous segments which continually discuss race and how much of a role it will play in the upcoming elections. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer has went as far as to ask if “America is ready for an African American first Lady?” as if the first lady should also be a determining factor on how we vote in the election.
There is no doubt that race will play a role in the minds of some Americans who have not left the dark ages yet but come November the main concerns of Americans are going to be the Economy, rising gas prices, Universal Health Care, getting our troops out of Iraq and so on. The race of the Candidates is not an issue that should be receiving this much attention at all. We as Americans have much bigger fish to fry. It would serve the United States of America much better for major broadcast media outlets like CNN to get off the Race Issue all together and focus on what the majority of Americans really care about!
To this end watch their ill timed segment on being black in America right here rather than on their super repetitive television station.
